Severe Weather Awareness Event
Last Tuesday from 4 to 7pm , many local amateur radio operators provided their talents programming weather radios at the Kroger store. Leland Statum from Newschannel 5 provided live segments urging local viewers to come and purchase new programmed weather radios! Interviews were conducted with county Emergency Coordinators as well as amateur radio operators who give of their time for public service in severe weather conditions. A network of amateur radio operators in tandum with emergency officials, provide a constant vigil for conditions that would spawn tornados and other life threatening weather. More than just a hobby, amateur radio provides the community with assistance at public events such as the recent Special Olympics or marathon running contests. If you would like to become a licensed ham radio operator, the hobby is open to all ages. The local MTARS Ham radio club meets every 2nd Thursday at the Tullahoma First Presbyterian Church and the public is always welcome. Come and discover the world of Amateur Radio!
